Banned the Math by Math the Band
So hello, it’s Timothy here with another music review because THAT’S THE ONLY THING I KNOW HOW TO DO.
Today I’m reviewing Banned the Math by Math the Band.
Unfortunately i can’t link the entire album, but this one is one of the best
And if you didnt just have a nerdy little giggle at that title, then I have no idea what you’re doing here. Let me start by saying that this album was AMAZING. FUCKING AMAZING. This is easily in my top 5 favorite albums. It’s not the best made, not the best songs, and he’s not the best singer, but thats what makes it so good. The difference between Math the Band and bands like My Chemical Romance, is that My Chemical Romance are kids trying to be adults and Math the Band is adults trying to be kids. They don’t take themselves overly seriously and because of that they make unusual, happy, beautiful, and frankly ridiculous music.
They’re style can only really be defined as techo-indie. Fun bopping electro tracks are bountiful and despite the quantity, each song is very high quality. The lyrics are all just fun and light hearted. like “My teacher asked us what we wanna be when we grow up! Most kids said a doctor, or a lawyer, or some boring stuff like that, but no, not me! / I wanna be 40ft tall! I wanna have Hydraulic arms! I want to fly! want to eat trains! Have laser eyes, computer brains, I wanna live on the Moon!!!!!” The best way I can think of to describe them is a cross between They Might be Giants and MGMT.
Another thing that I enjoyed about this album is that it was just so happy. The next time I’m down in the dumps, a few Math songs will be all i need. So my official rating, is 10/10. My only complaints are that the vocals were a bit quiet for some parts. Nonetheless, simply amazing.
i give it 30 geek points
